What is better – a bicycle or rollers? Advantages and disadvantages, calorie consumption, cost

If you like to play in the park, you probably noticed that the vast majority choose roller skates or bicycles to get around. We decided to find out what are the benefits of these types of transport and why people like them so much?

A bicycle

Calorie expenditure:

Cycling is a good way to control your weight because it increases your metabolic rate, builds muscle and burns fat. But, it’s no surprise that if you’re trying to lose weight, traveling should be combined with a healthy eating plan.

According to Harvard University, cycling at an average speed of 19 to 22 km/h will make a person weighing 70 kilograms burn 298 calories in 30 minutes. At a speed of 22 to 24 km/h, a person of the same weight burns 372 calories.

Muscles involved:

The main muscles involved in cycling are the quadriceps and hamstrings in the upper leg, as well as the calf and soleus muscles of the lower leg. When you ride a bike, the quadriceps and hamstrings do most of the work.

In addition, cycling is an excellent cardio workout. Regular cycling stimulates and improves your heart, lungs and circulation, reducing the risk of stroke, high blood pressure and heart attack. The heart muscles are strengthened, the pulse at rest is reduced.

Additional benefits:

Cycling improves strength, balance and coordination. It can also help prevent falls and fractures. Cycling is an ideal form of exercise if you have osteoarthritis as it puts less stress on the joints.

Besides the obvious health benefits, cycling is fun with family or friends. There are two-seater, three-seater and even four-seater tandems for riding together.

Makar, 4th year student, prefers bicycle to rollerblades and other modes of transport.:

“I have flat feet. For this reason, I can’t go rollerblading for a long time or even on a scooter or skateboard. The bicycle is convenient because there is no heavy load on the feet, and you can also sit down.

Muscles involved:

The advantage of rollerblading is that it is a full body workout, although of course there are certain areas and muscle groups that are most involved when rollerblading. Increasing your body strength through roller skating will also improve your coordination, help prevent injuries, and help you stay more active and flexible as you get older.

Roller skates are much more than just a cardio workout. In addition to losing weight, you will also be able to build muscle mass. After each roller skating session, you will notice the result. Buttocks, thighs, and calves will always be in good shape.

Elizabeth, a 3rd-year student, considers videos to be the best way to relieve emotional tension:

“It’s great when you drive in the evening along the park and think about everything in the world. About problems, about how they can be solved, you understand that, in fact, all this does not mean anything, and that you will be able to get along with everything. In general, I like sports, but sometimes I’m too lazy to go to the gym or just work out at home, then I take out the rollers and go for a ride. You sweat very well, then your legs fall off.”

So what is better?

In this case, the choice should be made based on your personal preferences and feelings. Roller skates are more difficult to learn to ride than a bike, but they slightly outweigh the bike in terms of benefits for the body, just for the reason that more muscles are involved when riding them.

However, in terms of the number of calories burned and the effect on the body, especially on the heart, these types of transport are almost the same. You can safely come to a sports store and choose what you like, knowing that your body will definitely say “thank you”.
