Andrey Kirylenko: Basketball in St. Petersburg stagnated, but now it will develop.

The President of the Russian Basketball Federation, Andrei Kirilenko, told the correspondent of “Sports Day by Day” about how the meeting with the President of the Petersburg Basketball Federation, Pavel Oderov, took place last Sunday. Kirilenko visited St. Petersburg over the weekend.

– How was your first meeting with the new president of the St. Petersburg Basketball Federation Pavlo Oderov today? Have decisions been made in the near future?
– We talked well! It’s nice to see young, fresh faces at the helm of basketball. I myself grew up in St. Petersburg, and I understand very well that it is very important to have an energetic leader at the head of the local federation. It can be seen that Pavel Valerievich is passionate about basketball and is determined to develop it. He strives to make progress at all levels, starting with children and youth. It seems to me that the development of basketball in St. Petersburg has slowed down somewhat in the last ten years. I am sure that the new management can unscramble the work of our sport.

We discussed several points: holding the stages of the Russian Cup in St. Petersburg, the final of the 3×3 Russian Cup in basketball, the development of the St. Petersburg championship, which, in my opinion, has stagnated again recently, the question of how RFB can help children’s and youth schools Petersburg. These are all big processes. I am sure that we will work fruitfully, – said Kirilenko.
